The human is part of the chordata phylum and the vertebrata subphylum. The respiratory system of the human body provides oxygen to cells, removing carbon dioxide and waste products. There are three major parts of the human respiratory system: the airway, the lungs, and the muscles of respiration. The airway includes: the nose, mouth, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, and bronchioles. The airway carries air between the lungs and outside the body. The lungs passes oxygen into the body and carbon dioxide out of the body. The muscles of respiration includes: the diaphragm and intercostal muscles. These muscles work together to push air into and out of the lungs during breathing.
