The scorpion is part of the arthropoda phylum and the chelicerata subphylum. The scorpion has a respiratory system known as the "book lung". A "book lung" is a type of respiration organ used for atmospheric gas exchange. The "book lung" is found inside an open ventral abdominal, air-filled cavity (atrium). It connects with the surroundings through a small opening used for respiration. "Book lungs" are stacks of air pockets and tissue filled with hemolymph (the equivalent of blood), making them look like a folded book. Scorpions have four pairs of "book lungs".
